Endophytic microbes dwell in the interior of plants during some periods of their life cycles thus establishing mutualistic as well as symbiotic relationships. These microbiomes from uncommon bioresources and unexplored ecological niches have been regarded as promising tools for the search for new leads. Endophytic fungal communities have been receiving more attention from microbiologists due to their huge biodiversity and largely unexploited metabolic resources. Secondary metabolites from endophytic fungi have great potential as antimicrobial, anti-cancer, antitumor, anti-parasitic, and anti-diabetic agents. Further, the color and enzyme-producing endophytes have applications in different industries. Thus, fungal endophytes in recent years have emerged as a promising alternate bioresource of secondary metabolites for sustainable development.
